Hello, my name is Linda and I'd like to thank you for visiting my website.
I love movement. I teach a hatha-style class influenced by the Anusara and Iyengar traditions. My intention is to try to keep you safe by offering suggestions for structural stability - aligning your bones and engaging your muscles and moving more slowly. As we age, our practice can evolve with our changing body. It is possible to have better, stronger movement with good technique. We use props to better feel where the body is in space or to customize your practice to make it more comfortable. For those of us who are stiffer, we can learn to soften tight places. For those of us who are more flexible, it is important to build strength around our joints. Strength around the joints helps protect them and reduces the risk of injury from overuse. I like the definition of flexibility as the ability to move freely without pain or restriction through your body's natural range of motion.
I completed the 230 hour year-long yoga study/teacher training at the Yoga Center of Minneapolis in 2009. After a year and a half as a volunteer assistant with the adaptive yoga program at the Courage Center in Golden Valley, I completed “Adapting Yoga for Disability” Level 1 training in April 2011 and Level 2 training in November 2012 offered by Matthew Sanford at MindBody Solutions in St. Louis Park, MN. I have trained with Judith Hanson Lasater in "Relax and Renew" restorative yoga, and experiential anatomy. I am listed in www.restorativeyogateachers.com/. I am also certified as a "Wisdom Warriors" teacher as developed by Desiree Rumbaugh and Karen Church, PT. Reiki I and Reiki II energy healing are also part of my toolbox. I try to weave ergonomics, agility and functional movement into all my classes.
I discovered yoga after several years as a ballroom dancer. From the first class, I found it to be the perfect complement to dancing as it encourages some of the same physical principles. I enjoy moving my body and am grateful to be able to participate in dance and yoga as they are both renewing and energizing activities. I am grateful to my teachers for sharing their experience, wisdom and knowledge with me as I continue on this journey as an older adventurer.
"Yoga is an invitation to be in our bodies in an entirely new way." Rolf Gates
"Yoga is an art, a science and a philosophy. It touches the life of man at every level: physical, mental, spiritual. It is a practical method for making one's life purposeful, useful and noble." B.K.S. Iyengar
Flexibility is the ability to move freely without pain or restriction, through your body's natural range of motion. Through our yoga practice we re-educate ourselves on how to move and be in our body.
"There is always someone in need of our best efforts to help and heal."
"Better body awareness has a way of seeping into other areas of your life."
